What is an Alfajor?

Alfajor is a delicious soft and delicate sandwich cookie
filled with Dulce de Leche, a creamy caramel confection made from milk and sugar.

Origin of Alfajor

It’s believed that alfajores were originally from the Middle East derived from the Arabic word “al-hasu” which means filled or stuffed. The original cookie recipe was brought to South America by the Spanish with the invasion of the Moors. These special cookies are usually prepared for Christmas and are made with honey, almonds, and spices. Conversely, the traditional Alfajor prepared in South America. Which will depend on each country respectively – consists of two soft cookies that melt in your mouth and are held together by a creamy dulce de leche.
